This bancha is grown from ripe tea leaves from the second and third harvest of Sencha. On small, family-run businesses on the island of Kyushu. The tea has a robust and slightly grassy taste and a light yellow hue. Bancha is very popular as an everyday tea in Japan because of its low caffeine content and can be drunk at any time of day.

Bancha is characterized by a high content of tannins, which gives the tea a slightly sour taste and a pronounced nutty aftertaste. These tannins also have anti-inflammatory and detoxifying effects. Bancha is also a rich source of antioxidants and catechins.
