DID YOU KNOW? ...
"Nadeshiko" (撫子) primarily refers to the flower carnation, but also has the meaning of “beloved” or "dear child". This combination of meanings led to the term Yamato Nadeshiko, which historically symbolised the idealised traditional Japanese woman; delicate and beautiful on the outside, but strong and steadfast on the inside. Today, "Nadeshiko" is also associated with the Japanese women`s national football team, which symbolises the strength and beauty of modern Japanese women.
