Lucky Charm – Jizo
CHF 7.50

Jizo is the Buddhist monk from the Japanese tradition. He is considered the patron god of children, which can also be recognised by his childlike facial features.
However, he is not only the patron deity of children and travellers in the human world, but also in the Buddhist realm of the dead.

Traditionally, the pilgrim`s staff in his right hand is used to open the gates to the underworld. In the other hand, the Jizo holds a stone jewel that is said to fulfil wishes.

DID YOU KNOW? ...
Jizo statues in Japan often wear red clothing.
In popular belief, red has always been regarded as a colour that is supposed to ward off evil spirits and demons. Newborn babies in particular are defenceless. This is why Japanese parents like to dress them in red clothes to protect them from negative influences.
