Mini scented sachets - sandalwood blend

Who doesn`t have memories of their grandparents` closets? You would often find a scented sachet there, filled with lavender, for example.

Nioi bukuro - like so many other things - were introduced to Japan by Buddhist priests sometime in the 8th century. At this time, Buddhist rituals began to spread and the use of incense and other fragrances became popular among the nobility. Soon, cloth bags were filled with mixtures of incense and herbs, which gave off a pleasant scent even at room temperature.

Today, the silk bags are filled with clove or sandalwood, for example.
In Japan, the small bags are typically worn under the kimono on the chest and act as a kind of perfume. If the Nioi Bukuro is placed in a drawer or shoe box, it transfers its fragrance to clothing and shoes.
