The wind chime bells are made in Odawara City (Kanagawa Prefecture), a casting production area with a history of more than 800 years, and the bamboo stands come from Shizuoka. For the wind bells, artisans go by the sound and melt special brass, which is mixed once at a high temperature. The mixture is carefully poured into molds and polished one by one with much time and devotion. The wind chime stand is made of Suruga Sensuji bamboo. Skilled craftsmen cut the bamboo into 41 thin and rounded sticks. Then the bamboo sticks are inserted and glued one by one. Thus, the bamboo stand is very delicate but at the same time very strong. The supple and smooth curves of bamboo bring a sense of tranquility to our daily lives, and the color as well as luster of bamboo change with age and become something very familiar. In the summer, people hang furins (jap. wind chimes) under the eaves to feel coolness from the sound. In other seasons, they are used as interior decoration of rooms to feel healing. In Japan, furins have long been valued as interior decorations or art objects to ward off evil spirits or as good luck charms.
Difference: Chime gold: high and clear sound - you can feel the fresh air on a sunny summer day. Chime black: deeper calm sound - radiates a quiet pleasant atmosphere.
Both wind chimes are delivered in beautiful paulownia wooden boxes with sanada string.
Sanada cord It is said that the name Sanada-himo comes from the fact that Masayuki, the father of the warlord Yukimura Sanada, used it as a strong and durable cord. It is a noble cord as a traditional craft, woven with thick cotton yarn, warp and weft, in a flat and narrow pocket shape. Since ancient times, it has been used as a cord to fasten important things, such as the bottom cord of a sword, the decoration of armor, the obi clasp of a kimono, and the cord of a paulownia box for tea ceremony utensils.
Paulownia Wood Box It has been revered as an auspicious tree since ancient times. It is said that the wood has an ignition point of over 400℃. In addition, the wood is little affected by the outside temperature and humidity, making it suitable for long-term storage and preservation of important items even in the four seasons of Japan. Because of this property, there are stories of clothing and other important items in paulownia chests surviving fires and floods. Also, because it contains ingredients that are resistant to insects and corrosion, paulownia has been used for many years as a box to store antiques and works of art.
