DID YOU KNOW?...
Kagami mochi (鏡餅) is part of the Japanese New Year celebration. It usually consists of two round mochi (rice cakes), with the smaller one placed on top of the larger one. On top is a daidai (a Japanese variety of bitter orange) with a leaf. Eating kagami mochi is part of the kagami biraki ritual. The mochi is crushed and processed into other Japanese dishes that are easier to eat.
